Yesterday, in a moment of weakness, I bought 50 daffodil bulbs and 3 frittilaria bulbs. Today, in a moment of absolute determination, I planted them all.

These are to replace the bad idea bulbs, which seem to have vanished, anyway.

Today’s harvest! Despite the funky weather this year, my mini backyard garden is still cranking out the food. Squash is basically done, and tomatoes are closing up shop, but the beans have a second wind (getting two decent harvests each week) and the peppers are just getting started .. will need to do some drying or pickling. So much fun!

When I've finally had enough, I think I'll follow in the footsteps of many of my spiritual forebears of the tech industry and become a farmer.

Apparently I might have a future in Jarrahdale pumpkins.

Ok. While this is not dog vomit slime mold I'd say it fits the theme: I present to you "Slimeordial tree boob blobs slime mold" (alternatively known as Wolf's Milk or Lycogala epidendrum).

Anyway. Slimeordial Tree Boob Blobs! Video to show how the inside oozes out. For your scientific curiosity :-)

Busy day today! Doing a little too! I planted a sweet potato on a whim and it's taken over the little yard I put it in! Every so often, it also makes a single very pretty flower, like a big morning glory.

This week's storm tipped over the corn plants. No real loss there as it turns out it was all rotting from the inside anyway. 🎉

It's been a strange season. Amazing for potatoes, strawberries, beans, and pumpkins. Awful for peas, corn and cucumbers.

On paper I'd expect cucumbers and pumpkins to do equally well, but not this time. It was the timing of these crops. The weather changed so drastically that we lost the entire first sowing of cucumbers. The second one didn't make it up before the frost hit. The pumpkins on the other hand were already established enough and made it through.

Similarly I'd expect peas and beans to perform equally, but this year with it's mild winter and warm weather was pest heaven and the peas were a near-complete loss.

We always plant a variety of things because you never know what jokes …
