Climate justice is not just an urgent matter, it's an essential one.

We can no longer afford to wait for change to happen, we must take action now.

We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to ensure that our planet is habitable and sustainable.

Let's demand accountability and action from our leaders, and work together towards a better, more equitable future for all.

Happy ! Here are some salt-marsh denizens at the Marine Nature Study Area, seen yesterday, to start the week off right (1st of 3 sets). And since this year's Black Birders Week theme is sparrows, this series starts with a Salt-marsh Sparrow and ends with a Song Sparrow. To me, the Saltie is emblematic of the plight of salt marsh ecosystems, endangered as encroachment by developers, pollution and sea-level rise due to global heating steadily erode their habitat. Preservation of salt-marsh ecosystems also connects with struggles for climate and environmental justice, as exemplified by the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina and other climate disasters. We would all do well to reflect on the intimate links between environmental and social justice and ecological and social sustainability. Please see alt-text for specific info.

AND WHAT IF WE ALL JUST TOLD THE TRUTH?

That equity is easy; it’s just never been a priority.

That poverty is manufactured to keep the wealthy at the top.

That homelessness is a policy choice.

That the economy isn’t complex; it’s controlled and manipulated.

That you can’t afford a home, because the rich are hoarding them.

That hunger persists because capitalism doesn’t see feeding people as valuable.

That supermarkets exploit us, because food is a business, not a right.

That ecological collapse continues because stopping it threatens someone’s bottom line.

That billionaires exist because exploitation is legal and encouraged.

That we don’t live in democracies - we live under oligarchies dressed up as freedom.

That the system gaslights you, every time it blames you for the struggle it created.

That you can’t self-improve your way out of structural oppression.

AND THE BIGGEST LIE???

That nothing can change.

The truth... …

What some people don’t understand about is that it does not mean economic growth must decline everywhere.

If we are to achieve climate justice and social justice, which is the true aim of degrowth, then countries of the Global South — who have for too long suffered under climate colonialism, paying the greatest price for rampant consumption in the Global North — must be allowed to grow and achieve something close to parity with the rich world.

But how can that be done without utterly ravaging the biosphere and causing runaway global heating?

The only way is for countries in the Global North to *radically* reduce their economies. If the USA, Canada, Europe, etc., decide to merely slow their rate of growth while maintaining resource consumption at roughly where it is today, then we’re doomed.

Although I'm not optimistic it will happen, there still is a way out …

New CEF video: “Farming Food for Life” features Stephen Sherwood, a regenerative farmer and researcher in Ecuador’s Andes. We discuss how smallholder farmers can restore soil, draw down carbon, and build climate resilience, with practical lessons from decades of work. Watch the conversation and join us in rethinking food, farming, and climate action.

Extreme inequality between rich and poor is a feature of capitalism, an inevitable and desired result. Another feature is contemptible disregard for those less fortunate.

As the world continues heating up, millions or even billions of disadvantaged humans in the Global South will suffer the consequences of rampant consumerism and capitalist greed in the Global North.

This is all deliberate. It's not an accident.

That's how capitalism works: shift the damage of our lifestyles far away so we don't have to see it or think about it.

The latest from PETA: thanking Trump for cutting funding for the National Institute of Health, and therefore cutting funding for animal experimentation.

What are you thanking him for? For slashing funding that inadvertently helps animals?

Let’s check the facts with some of April’s headlines:

✅Trump Administration Plans to Remove Habitat Protections for Endangered Species

✅ Every president is friendly to the meat industry - but Trump is taking it to another level

✅Shelter expects tariffs to mean more pets abandoned

✅ The Trump administration says it will cut EPA staffing to Reagan-era levels

TRUMP IS NOT PRO-ANIMAL.
LIBERATION IS POLITICAL.
DELUDING OURSELVES INTO BELIEVING
OTHERWISE IS AN INJUSTICE TO THE ANIMALS.

Vegans against fascism coming soon.

In theory it is barely possible to imagine that the leading governments of the world will soon make a joint effort to drastically reduce fossil fuel use, end capitalism, and begin a program of planned while making a high priority.

It's possible, but I'd say the chances of that happening are very slim.

So what can we do? In general, I think it might be best to begin learning as much as possible about the process of potential societal collapse. How and when could things start to unravel where you live?

🎞Filmscreening "System Change" on 29.04.2025🎞

Dear all,

how to respond to a political system that prioritises economic interests over ecological responsibility?

‘System Change - A story of growing resistance‘ is right in the middle of the protests against cutting down the Dannenröder Forest (’Danni") and shows how a young generation takes a stand against the ignorance in face of the greatest crisis of our time.

A film that makes us angry; and therefore gives us the energy to get active for climate justice.

We happily invite you to the screening at GalileA on 29 April.

We would like to watch the film, discuss together …

I find this very inspiring. It's part of a manifesto from the Postgrowth Cities Coalition...

With our eyes set on a postgrowth world, we must promote:

1) Residential buildings that no longer contribute to environmental destruction, but instead catalyze human and ecological flourishing by helping to build communities and reduce the consumption of resources and energy.

2) Transport systems that are no longer produced by environmentally destructive machines, but instead prioritize ecological and social sustainability, granting people access to healthy food, care, and meaningful social engagement.

3) Institutions that cease fetishizing private property as a right, but instead pursue forms of autonomy and democracy that center on essential needs such as social care, health, meaningful social engagement, and human well-being.

Gaza isn’t just a genocide — it’s a preview.

What Israel is doing with U.S. weapons in Palestine is a blueprint for a future of climate apartheid: brutal, racist, and profitable.

The complete dismissal of entire populations as sub-human is a stark reminder that the horrors of the transatlantic slave trade and colonial genocide of indigenous populations by Western empires have never left us. It is also a frightening reflection of the priorities of the world’s rulers as we watch the planet’s life-support systems erode due to ecological collapse.

The ruling class’s desire to preserve a society that is free from ecological breakdown extends only to a future reserved for themselves – a minority of multi-millionaires and billionaires. Meanwhile, what we are witnessing in Gaza is a sign of what is to come in an era of growing ecological breakdown brought on by a capitalist world order that is …
