Italian poet, playwright & librettist Giuseppe Giacosa died in 1906.

He gained initial fame for his play Una Partita a Scacchi in 1871. His main field was playwriting, which he accomplished with both insight & simplicity, using subjects set in Piedmont and themes addressing contemporary bourgeois values. He wrote La signora di Challant for noted actress Sarah Bernhardt, produced in New York in 1891.

The Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper), adapted by Bertolt Brecht, Elisabeth Hauptmann and composer Kurt Weill from The Beggar's Opera, is launched at the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin, with Harald Paulsen and Lotte Lenya in the principal rôles.

By 1933, when Weill & Brecht were forced to leave Germany by the Nazi seizure of power, the play had been translated into 18 languages and performed more than 10,000 times on European stages.

Helped with the loading in and out of Patrick's "Neon man" last night at 59 East 59th Street theaters. They are performing there Thursday evening 6:00 start time I think.

I gotta rearrange my schedule a little to make it there- looks to be a good show. Also neat to see a little behind the scenes with how theater stuff works and hear the actors work out the backstage traffic, positioning of things, lighting cues and who grabs what to get things out on stage- lots of details.

Gosh it was a good feeling to tell them that we were on a battery pack when they saw the neon on and blamed us for tripping the circuit breaker. "I know, I know, the room is now red- but we're not plugged in :)"

Unfortunately the big version of the neon person can't be used at this theater due …
