Happy Medium by Sarah Adler

3.75 stars

What a killer concept for a romance novel: a bullshit artist with a spirit medium scam and a guilty conscience encounters a real ghost, but can't convince the handsome farmer whose life is on the line. A lot of fun and very sweet, with just a few too many squicks and half-baked tropes for my taste. (I'm not a huge fan of the whole high maintenance city woman falling in love with a humble country man schtick, it feels too taming of the shrew-adjacent). The charming side characters, including the ghost, were a particular standout.

Every month, we do a cool thing on QueeRomanceInk.com to support indie writers. We share 4 of their books with our readers for free, and then add those readers (only with permission) to the author lists. It's a great way to get some new reads, "meet" a few up and coming authors, and forge new connections. :)

This month's books are below. Grab 'em here (we send them out around the 3rd of next month):

I read Cat Sebastian’s The Missing Page yesterday. I did not see the resolution to the mystery coming, and it was so sweet and good! I trust Sebastian to write nuanced, well-rounded queer characters and I was delighted to see a trans character treated with just as much care. It was a lovely surprise. I had to stop reading and text a bunch of people about it as soon as I realized what I was reading.
