Star Trek: Discovery might have wrapped its fifth and final season, but it’ll never truly be over!

I’m currently seeking submissions for the first annual Celebrate Discovery Zine, a collection of art, fanfic, essays, poems, how-to’s, and photographs.

Submissions are open August 1-September 1, with publication scheduled for September 24. At this time, only a digital release is planned; however, a high-res, print-ready version will be available for anyone wanting to print the issue for themselves.

Submissions can be sent as attachments (rtf, doc, docx, pdf, jpg, or png) or in the body of the email to jordanlafordan [at] gmail.com. Please do not send links.

Nothing created using AI generative tools will be accepted.

Unfortunately, this is not a paid opportunity. Reprints (meaning the piece already appears elsewhere, like AO3, your blog, Tumblr, etc.) are welcome!

For all pieces:

- Star Trek characters, settings, timelines, etc, from other series are …

Does anyone know this amazing woman who attended the Lower Decks panel?

Attendee: "My name is Devette, I'm old. I remember seeing Uhura for the first time when I was a little girl going 'Wow.' Then I waited a couple of decades and I got Discovery. And then, you know, I got Lower Decks and I was like, 'This is awesome!' And then Discovery was canceled and now you guys are canceled and I'm just going to ask..."

Mike McMahan: "I like where this is going."

Devette, Attendee: "Thank you for those women. I appreciate it. I just hope it's not going to be another couple of decades before it happens again. I'm just asking... sorry."

Host: "That was a great question, for reasons unspecified. For now."

(The panel does NOT answer the woman. They move on.)

The gif below is a representation of me, being adrift, waiting for the release of Discovery season 5 physical media. Which isn't for another 4 to 5 weeks.

Woe, as the slings and arrows of subspace gravitational waves prevent mine thought processes from staying focused. As instead they roil against the slings and arrows of the outrageous wait of 5 more weeks before getting the physical media of Discovery season 5.

Much sighing. Some drama. A few mixed metaphors. More sighing.

Saru, the first, and for some time only, Kelpien at the UFP and in Starfleet. Was Saru treated like a mysterious rockstar? Or, only spoken about in hushed, whispered, rumors behind his back. We know about Saru's beginnings on Kaminar. And, his time after becoming a Starfleet lieutenant and a bridge science officer on the USS Shenzhou. I wonder about the time in-between those events. 🤔

How did Saru's integration into the UFP and Starfleet work. As the first and only Kelpien in the UFP, folks must have had a lot of questions for him. Starfleet personnel could be ordered to not ask questions. Xeno-biologists and xeno-anthropologists who weren't in Starfleet must have been very curious about Saru.

Saru didn't learn the truth about Vahar'ai until DSC season 2. Until then, as far as he knew at some point in the future he would go mad from the pain of …
