100th: Give the Boys a Great Big Hand from Ed McBain published in 1960 offers the most gruesome and cynical 87th Precinct case to that point. The cops face a daunting and disturbing murder when severed hands are discovered in a bag during a rainstorm with no clues to the victim or crime. Great read that captures the feeling that US was slowly unraveling and that the safety and conformity of 1950s was an illusion.

Today I finished reading The Girl With Ice in Her Veins — and I must say I was disappointed. The setting in Gasskas cannot compare with Stockholm, and the convoluted plot with foolish characters was a huge drag.

Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander are barely present. Instead, the book leans too heavily on violence against women, ticking every cliché box. After such a frustrating read, I won’t be revisiting this series again.
