Today in Labor History November 16, 1938: LSD was first synthesized by Albert Hofmann at the Sandoz Laboratories in Basel. The original intention of the lab was to create a new drug that stimulated the respiratory and circulatory system. It was not until April 19, 1943, that he would first sample the new drug, when he accidentally absorbed some, leading to his famous bike ride home. After an initial period of anxiety and terror, he began to settle in with the experience, which he described as such: “In a dreamlike state, with eyes closed (I found the daylight to be unpleasantly glaring), I perceived an uninterrupted stream of fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colors.” April 19 is now celebrated as Bicycle Day.

In 1947, Sandoz began providing the drug to researchers under the trade name Delysid. Throughout the 1950s, researchers began using the drug to treat …

Firstly, LSD is a hard entry to psychedelics. I would recommend psilocybin mushrooms instead.

Secondly, most LSD tabs I've come across are "strong". I would generally not recommend a whole one.

Thirdly, LSD is completely water soluble. Instead of trying to cut a tiny piece of paper accurately, leave a tab in e.g. 1 liter of water (distilled or mineral!) in the fridge overnight. You can dose far more reliabily that way.

Oh man, I just saw on Reddit that, in an interview with
an Italian website, Jim the bass player mentioned that near mythological LP (that was unfinished at the time of Tim Smith's debilitating illness) is close to being completed.

I don't know how I feel about this. Joy that new Cardiacs is coming, but sadness knowing that it's never going to be a 'proper' Cardiacs release what with Timmy dying and all that...

Today in labor History January 17, 1961: Patrice Lumumba, anti-colonial fighter and former premier of the newly independent Republic of the Congo, was assassinated with the complicity of the CIA. President Eisenhower authorized an assassination in 1960, because of Lumumba’s ties with the Soviet Union. CIA chemist Sidney Gottlieb planned to kill him with poisoned toothpaste. Gottlieb was the main scientist behind the CIA’s MKUltra program, which did illegal human mind control experiments with drugs, like LSD, without the victim’s knowledge or consent. He was also involved in numerous assassinations.
