OMG, the iconic Shoujo Manga "Beauty Pop" (a la the era of Ouran High School Host Club, Fruits Basket, or Kitchen Princess) is going to be releasing again in a new series. The nostalgia 🥰 The original series ran from 2003-2008?! Seems to be a digital only release.

At first the main character seems ordinary and tomboyish. Upon facing a team of boys who can be immensely patronizing towards the women that are the subjects of their skills as aspiring beauticians, she's able to knock them down a few pegs when she shows off her humble and unexpected skills and cause them to question their beliefs around beauty. Often, she showcases how you can bring out one's beauty by complementing what is already there and helping them find confidence, rather than trying to erase it based on assumed beauty standards.

We serve incarcerated readers in 35 US states. Fortunately, there are other book programs sending to people in the 15 states we lack the resources to serve.

One of those programs, Books to Prisoners Seattle, has a partnership with the wonderful people at @outsidercomics who help them get comic books that comply with prisons' arcane rules. Read Outsider Comics' fascinating account of how they select and for incarcerated people:

Re-Read - Your Lie in April, Volume 5

Volume 5 had some moments. I narrowed it down to two I wanted to discuss.

This is the first.

Kosei is on the piano and he's hearing his mother's voice in his head saying that "Solitude is [his] punishment."

It's chilling and the shading in this scene making it appear as though the shadows are enclosing him. You can really understand his feelings in this very moment.

📘 "The Promised Neverland" (vol 1-20) written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu

I've been chipping away at this all throughout April. It has been a long while since I've gotten so engrossed in a long manga series. At 20 volumes, with 181 chapters, this small team has created over 4000 pages in less than 7 years. Amazing for such good quality.

I really can't say much about this series without spoiling anything. The story starts off in an orphanage, where a few dozen kids are being raised for adoption by a single person called Mom. Every child gets adopted between the ages of 6 and 12, never to be seen or heard from again. Very suspicious...

What makes reading this so fun is the extremely high pace, the cliffhangers at the end of every chapter, the plot twists that also have their own plot twists -it's hard …
