press cave you in memories

what's a piece of media/fiction where when it was good it was So Good in a way that's hard to explain in retrospect to people who weren't experiencing it linearly because it never ended up fulfilling its promise. Not that it necessarily has to end up being bad but that it never reached or paid off that high again.

(Game of Thrones I imagine to a lot of people is one, as an example)

It's odd that I get confused if I've watched an episode already because I've read the / before. But I don't if it's a live-action adaptation. 😅 Have you experienced something similar?

Sawyer’s Reading Log, 2025

This is my first Reading Log.

One nice thing about writing these end-of-year lists is I get to decide if the ways I’ve used to track a medium actually work. This year, I can say I’ve been disappointed by every single book-tracking method I’ve tried. I tried using Notion, Goodreads, Fable, and Storygraph. Each one has annoyances than make them not very fun to use. For 2026, I’ve decided to return to pen and paper, specifically with a little journal I bought in Japan called “Whisky & Reading Time.” We’ll see if that works any better.

Books read in 2025

  • Wonder Boys by Michael Chabon
  • The Creative Act by Rick Rubin
  • The Watch that Ends the Night by Hugh MacLennan
  • Welcome to Dorley Hall by Alyson Greaves
  • Let This Radicalize You by Kelly Hayes
  • Service by Sarah Gilmartin
  • Good Girl by …

actually had started reading it when it came out but dropped it; but recent talk of it made me give it another chance and liked it a lot now

i feel like this is cheating because I read it all up to day only very recently

after the very wholesome kaketa tsuki to donuts and onnatomodachi to kekkon shitemita, a series where everyone is fucked up

from U-temo I liked the designs but not so much their previous works, but this one is neat

would be perfect if the remake came out faster

now that the year is (somewhat close to) ending, decided to make a list of my current top 10 of ongoing yuri manga (not really in order)

this is one actually my top, cute MC and a high school story that already got multiple twists in less than 2 volumes

decided to try it because of morishima akiko, pretty good series with seniors

this probably needs not much presentation at the moment

has a setting somewhat reminiscent of watatabe though the story itself is completely different. point against is that it comes out very slowly

yatosaki haru is one of my favorite authors, and this manga is very cute

what's your favourite or some of your favourite "Han Solo comes back" moment in fiction?

i.e. that moment where a character shows up to help when the protagonists don't expect it?

I admit to being a sucker for these moments even if I see them coming a mile away.
