Microsoft claims its new Windows 11 Xbox popups aren’t ads, merely “options you can purchase”

With Windows 11 slowly receiving more and more ads across its system, people are getting a little tired of seeing new ones pop up. Over the past few days, some users have spotted ad pop-ups advertising the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and the paid ...continues

I have 200 steam games installed, and have probably played over 500 on my system. My system disables certain Windows OS Services because I don't want updates.

But ONLY ONE GAME of all of those requires Windows built-in services to play. "Halo: Master Chief Collection"

So it seems like is using its market control to leverage its products within that market.

Surprise, surprise: In a system that conflates intelligence with profit, Microsoft thinks artificial general intelligence is what you get when you have $100B in profits.

(Yes, you read that right. Yes, it’s absolute nonsense. But then again, so is capitalism in general. Sadly, it’s not harmless nonsense but a death cult.)

“Microsoft and OpenAI have a very specific, internal definition of artificial general intelligence (AGI) based on the startup’s profits, according to a new report from The Information. And by this definition, OpenAI is many years away from reaching it.

The two companies reportedly signed an agreement last year stating OpenAI has only achieved AGI when it develops AI systems that can generate at least $100 billion in profits.”

Microsoft and OpenAI have contractual definition of AGI.
https://techcrunch.com/2024/12/26/microsoft-and-openai-have-a-financial-definition-of-agi-report/ The reason the need for definition is that Microsoft loses access to OpenAI’s technology when the startup reaches AGI.

"The two companies reportedly signed an agreement last year stating OpenAI has only achieved AGI when it develops AI systems that can generate at least $100 billion in profits."
That's Saudi Aramco, Apple, Alphabet, level profits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_corporate_profits_and_losses

Currently OpenAI loses billions annually, and tells investors it won’t turn a profit until 2029.

I think Microsoft made a good bet.
