I think @liztai wrote a very interesting article where she ponders "What happens when one storytelling style dominates the world?
Half-formed thoughts about the global dominance of Western fiction and how it may be overshadowing the storytelling styles of different cultures."

She has thoughts on the differences between the Western story structure and the Chinese story structure that gave me food for thought. I wonder if this is a clue as to why I find some Chinese (and Korean and Japanese) authors to be writing material that is far more interesting than Western authors these days. I am thinking specifically about scifi and fantasy in my own experience.

"There are very often times when the role itself has not been thought through," he said. "It doesn't require any kind of specificity in the story as it's being told, or in the specifics of the character, because very often, it's not even being written by an Asian person. So they don't know the difference in what they're asking for, and yet casting is being very specific."

Venture capitalists have a thing they like to say. "We don't invest in ideas. We invest in people." That's true in a couple of ways. Let's get the funny one out of the way: they don't invest in ideas. Check. They invest in people. Specifically, they invest in people who look like they do, because today's venture capitalist was yesterday's startup founder and vice versa. They might as well be saying "we're both investing in our younger selves, and reinvesting in the idea that we've earned our place by perpetuating the idea that the next wave of us will come from the same pool."

On August 1st, we commemorate Emancipation Day, marking the abolition of slavery across the British Empire in 1834.

This day is a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of Black communities and their enduring fight for freedom and equality.

Let's honour this day by reflecting on our history, educating ourselves, and continuing the work towards a more just and inclusive society✊🏿

📣 Never silent again! Loud for freedom, strong for diversity! 🏳️‍🌈
What a powerful presence by the at Stuttgartpride 2025!

💪 With around 350 participants, we were once again one of the largest walking groups in the colorful parade through Stuttgart, standing up for freedom, visibility, and diversity. 🌈
💥 Highlight: The student representation stuvus built their own float and turned up the volume – rain or shine! 🌧️
🔊 Our motto "Intelligent through diversity" was loud, proud, and unmissable.
For the first time, we also had an information booth on Sunday for conversations, awareness, and visibility beyond the parade. Because diversity isn’t a one-day thing. It lives and grows on campus.
