Iโm up to date on Murderbot Diaries now and have to wait until may next year for the next one to come out. I am in the mood for more sci-fi and cyberpunk. Maybe Iโll pick up the Judges series (prequel to Dredd: The Early Years). Iโm kind of itching to re-play Deus Ex with all the chatter about a remake being on the horizon.

Alex Keane commented on All Systems Red by Martha Wells (The Murderbot Diaries, #1)
I had forgotten how great some of the asides were, like I remembered a generally snarky tone but the line about "Mensah underestimated my ability to ignore humans, but I appreciated the thought" cracked me up.
Alex Keane started reading All Systems Red by Martha Wells (The Murderbot Diaries, #1)
Rereading Murderbot because I want something fun and the show just came out.
Very much still read book Murderbot as femme though.
Prompt 26 - a book where an adult character changes careers - June 3, 2025 - Okay, so I stretched this one a bit. Murderbot starts as transport security, poses as a security consultant, then switches back to a SecUnit in the third book of this series. As usual, I'm left wanting more.

I am reading Service Model by @aptshadow and it is delightful.
It reminds me of many things, which I won't list because it's not them, but it's a real page-turner that I'm enjoying a lot.
Classic AT creepiness but also fun and weird and satirical.
Strong recommend, esp if you like #MurderBotDiaries
Well there's one heh

I'm so jealous of #Murderbot's ability to turn its pain sensors down
obviously I don't want to be a super-traumatized killing machine under the thumb of an ultracapitalistic system and rented out to indifferent humans who think I'm barely sentient ... but damn would it be nice to be able to adjust my pain sensors at will
NEW EPISODE: Posting later than usual, but hey, it's done now, so here you go! Enjoy Jim's review of Artificial Condition, Bk 2 of Martha Wells' The Murderbot Diaries. Is it a step up, or does it suffer sequel syndrome? #MurderbotDiaries #SciFi #BookReview https://youtu.be/6UNkoPjDt_A
Morning Folks! I figured it was time for a reading update and this morning I talk about the #MurderbotDiaries by Martha Wells, #SwornSoldier series by T.Kingfisher, and finishing up #DivideSeries by J.S. Dewes.
I Love Murderbot!

We really got the computer-human relationship all wrong: it should be a model of consent, rather than about restraining bolts, governor modules, or the Three Laws of Robotics
I was thinking about this excellent speech by Martha Wells on her Murderbot diaries being stories of bodily autonomy and slavery, and about the fantastic video on The Tragedy of Droids in Star Wars by Pop Culture Detective.

Martha Wells spells out how wrong the Three Laws of Robotics are in stipulating a subservient relationships for robots to sacrifice themselves on behalf of humans, built around fears or assumptions that robots would inherently act to harm humans (or not act to save humans) and that therefore robots should put humans before themselves.

I just love those outside-humanity observations and internal dialogue by the protagonist of @marthawells's Murderbot Diaries, like: "She had full control of her neural tissue", and "41.32 minutes later ..." ๐
Currently reading "System Collapse".
If The Fediverse ends up becoming The Corporation Rim one day...
Should we start building The Preservation Alliance?
I'm really enjoying The #MurderbotDiaries series by #MarthaWells. They're about a Security Android that gains sentience, names itself Murderbot, & keeps its sentience a secret as it only wants to watch soap operas while staying out of the human affairs that it keeps getting dragged into.
I'm reading book 2, Artificial Condition, & I already like it better than the 1st book in the series. This one has a better sense of its dark humor than the first which I find endearing.
