Small acts of kindness make a big difference - that’s why we always say that no act of kindness is too small to celebrate. Here’s a great example:

“At Birmingham Fetish Weekend I went in my powerchair and people were so kind to open the doors for me as I was zipping around. It wasn’t just a few times either, it was all the time.”

Let’s hear about a small act of kindness that you’ve spotted recently.

At number 7 in our top 10 acts of kindness this year is an example from Jonathan Chrimes:

“I witnessed a car stopping to check that the car going the other way was OK after their car broke down on a busy highway.

As it was raining the car that pulled over passed out plastic rain ponchos so at least they could stay dry whilst waiting for the tow truck."

“New Friend arrived at my door wearing a mask, her glasses fogged from the cold, carrying a giant armful of branches. You need birds, she told me, and proceeded to the balcony, where she planted the branches in an empty pot.

She hung a makeshift bird feeder (the lid of a plastic container) off the branches and secured it with twine and twist ties. She dropped a handful of crushed nuts on the feeder."

“A small act but I appreciate it as a person living on Social Security. Aldi’s the grocery store charges $.25 for the use of their carts.. as I was walking toward the cart row a lady came up to me & said do you need a cart? as she was rolling hers from her car. I said yes I do & tried to give her a quarter. She said no thank you, you have a nice day.

I smiled & thanked her. When I was done with it, I passed it on to the next person coming towards the store.”

No is too small!

Lucy's top kindness story of the year, and number 8 on our list is about kindness at work:

“The TfK story that sticks with me from this year is the one that reminded us ‘people first, work second’. It struck a chord because it made me remember the time when my grandma was dying. That ended up being a very intense time. I was privlelged to be able to be with her in the last days of her life and it was a beautiful experience."

Number 9 in our top 10 acts of kindness this year is from head kindness cheerleader, Sarah:

“So many to choose from, but one that really sticks in my mind was when I was in Switzerland to watch the Women’s Euros Final.

In the (long) queue for the ladies loo at the Lionesses HQ fan zone word went round that there was no loo roll left. Next thing I know, a single loo roll is being passed back along the line, with each person taking some and passing it on."

“A good friend of mine lived in a red state, in unsafe conditions for numerous reasons. Another friend of mine ended up driving across three states to pick them up and move them into their home in a safe blue state. That redeemed the human race for me.”

Helping to get people to somewhere safe is a huge act of kindness.

We hear about and share acts of every single day so if you want that reminder regularly, make sure you’re following us.

“At bedtime I always make sure my son speaks to his grandparents on FaceTime so he talks to them at least once every day.

My mother asked him on the phone what he wanted for Christmas. He told her he had everything he wanted so didn’t know what to ask for. Then he told her ‘Take the money you would spend on me for Christmas and give it to charity.’

He’s 11. That blew me away and it made my mother cry.”
