This is a photo of a road in the ruins in Pompeii. It shows a close-up of large dark grey paving stones, all of roughly the same size but without proper shaping. Between the large pavers are small, white stones, roughly the size of 2€ or 1 US$ coin. They are set inside the crevasses left between the large stones.
