I remember when I started Lies of Locke Lamora, I was told by one of my friends that the first book was excellent and that the quality tapered off after that. Personally, I have to say I enjoyed this second book much better than I did the first. I am not sure what is different about it, but something clicked more. Maybe it was just that I was already bought into the main two characters and the "brotherly" dynamic, but whatever the case I look forward to moving on to the third book at some point soon.
