First read (June 1): I’ve had trouble explaining this book to people which I think is valid considering how deeply this book has imprinted itself on my bones in the most personal way. Some parts of the books were frustrating on a personal level (hopping back and forth from time and places and story) but in the end those moments built up an intricate and heart-consuming kind of way. A love letter to dreamers and readers. Felt too seen in many moments and have cried too much. Loved it.

May 19 (first read): I loved the journalistic/research style of writing, though I’m not usually fond of first person pov. Loved the descriptions of the fae world and how it was mixed into the realistic setting. Would this technically be considered magical realism? Maybe the historical part would make that impossible. Loved how characters just accepted that the fae are real and went on with their lives. Emily’s arc was lovely. Let people love you, girl! Especially handsome fae research partners that want to tailor your clothes for you.

First read (2024): while it took me about two months to finish, I loved it! First book I’ve read by Blake but I absolutely love her writing style. There were moments that dragged but I found that I loved them because of how well she wrote the characters. They felt so real and flawed that it was hard to finish (set down).
