finished reading Desert Star by Michael Connelly (Renée Ballard, #5)

Michael Connelly: Desert Star (2022)

Excellent story. Ballard and Bosch close a couple of cold cases in their inimitable way. It seems like this might be the last story that Bosch will be in due to the cesium exposure he had in an earlier book. Ballard sets up a new story line where she can co-star with Micky Holler. Should be good!

"As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure."

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, …

I really enjoyed this book. The world building was well done. Murderbot is an interesting character who raises many questions about how humanity will treat their creations; are AI, and constructed beings people? Do they have rights? How are their needs different from ours? I’m looking forward to future installments in this series to see how the author addresses these questions.

Cory Doctorow: Attack Surface (2020)

Cory Doctorow's Attack Surface is a standalone novel set in the world of New York …

Another interesting story from Doctorow. I’d suggest reading his earlier books, starting with Little Brother, as the characters in Attack Surface are developed from those works. You’ll still be able to enjoy this story if you start here, but you’ll get more out of the book if you know the back story.
