60 year old male who "slowly" reads thrillers and mysteries with an occasional novel thrown in there. Just got back into reading in October 2022 after stopping during the pandemic. I read mainly epubs on my phone and 10 inch Android tablet. Always on the lookout for the next great thriller.

John Grisham: The Rooster Bar (2017, Doubleday)

Review of 'The Rooster Bar' on 'Goodreads'

This was just an OK book. The character development was very good but the premise of the story was weak and so was the last 1/4 of the book. I'm disappointed in Grisham for letting this book get published in its current "lazy" state.

With that said, I still enjoyed the book and it was an easy read but a 3-star rating is all I can offer.

This was a very entertaining book. It's my first Nora Robers read. She did a good job developing memorable characters and the plot is right in my wheelhouse. The sci-fi/fantasy concept usually makes me stop reading a book worked for me this time. I'll read the sequels for sure.

Too sci-fi for me. I didn't finish the book because it got too crazy unbelievable. Came within 50 pages of finishing the book, however.

Review of 'The Whistler' on 'Goodreads'

With the reading of The Whistler, I have discovered the value of a great author. Grisham is a great author. Why? Because the subject matter of The Whistler wasn't especially interesting to me but Grisham's skills and writing style made it a fun read. The last five books I have read were, in many parts, excruciatingly slow. I didn't encounter any of those parts in The Whistler.

Character development was excellent and he never really lingered on any one issue for too long. The only questionable part of the book was the ending. It seemed a little rushed. It was kind of like the author got bored writing the book or he ran up against a deadline.

This is still a solid 4-star book.

Review of 'The Taliban Shuffle' on 'Goodreads'

I really wanted to enjoy this book. There were some aspects that were enjoyable but it just got too tedious and into the "foreign correspondence" weeds for my liking. The book was made into a movie and while they were two completely different genres when completed, the movie was far more enjoyable. I rarely say that.

Kim Barker's explanation of the life of a war-zone news reporter did make me wish I could get a news job in that part of the world. For providing that unlikely dream scenario, I thanks her.

Enjoyable book but could have been a lot better. This was #4 in a series of books about an explorer like Indiana Jones but never quite reached that excitement or interest level. Doubt I will backtrack and read the first three books in the series.

The author has written another series of books that I may read in the future.

This book didn't appeal to me at all. The plot and main character were just too unbelievable. Fans of James Bond may enjoy this book. I quit reading only 100 pages into the novel.

Review of 'Days of rage' on 'Goodreads'

So far, the few Pike Logan series of books I have read have been enjoyable and easy reads. Character development is good and while the plot in "Days of Rage" was a little unbelievable and too super-hero laced, I enjoyed it.
