My experience of this books was interesting in that I was rapt for the first 3/4 or so, and then terribly bored for the remainder, having to force myself to finish.

Review of 'Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead' on 'Goodreads'

This book presents itself as a thriller, but it is really an exploration of psychological trauma, the way it distorts the main character's perceptions of the world and of herself, and her journey through and eventually out of this terrifying inner house of mirrors.

Those who are hoping for a dark, lurid thriller may end up being disappointed because, when the whole picture is finally revealed, it is somewhat anticlimactic. On the one hand, the author masterfully employs misdirection around The Incident to keep the reader engaged in unraveling the mystery. Some readers (like me) will get a thrill out of the revelation that what happened ends up being quite different from what they have been led to believe, while others will likely be annoyed that it's not nearly as "juicy" as the buildup (and the deliciously enticing name "Scarlet Christmas") suggested.
