didn't realize how sluggish dune felt to read until i started this. everything seems so much more alive. even tho i was really rooting for the monster storyline to be abandoned since it didn't really add much to the first part. at least this time it feels a lot more directed since the bearer of the madness seems to use it to control the gangs of the city.

it also got really violent really fast again. definitely not a book for people who can't deal with a good bit of gore.
