I primarily read science fiction, but I will also read some general fiction, and even an interesting autobiography.

I love The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I'm not sure if anything I'll ever read will supplant it as my favorite thing to read.

Katherine Min: The Fetishist (2024, Little, Brown Book Group Limited) No rating

In this hilariously savage, poignant novel by acclaimed author Katherine Min, a grieving daughter’s revenge …

This is a bit of a weird one. I don't like the majority of the characters very much. They've all made some pretty bad decisions so far.

Brandon Sanderson: Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive, Book 2) (Paperback, 2014, Tor)

The eagerly awaited sequel to the New York Times bestselling The Way of Kings.

I started listening to this a while back but forgot to update here. It's good. Kaladin is finally getting out there and showing himself!

Riley August: Last Gifts of the Universe (2024, Harlequin Enterprises ULC)

Finished reading this with my 7-year-old son last night. It was a very touching story. I'm glad my son listened to it with good attention most of the time. I checked that he was understanding the story as it went along, and he followed most of it.

I'll definitely check out more books by this author in the future.

Brandon Sanderson: The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive #1) (Paperback, 2010, Tor Books)

Widely acclaimed for his work completing Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time saga, Brandon Sanderson now …

It took me a little while to get into this one, but once I started having to commute to work again I rattled through it in short order.

I feel like I know a lot of the characters now, and I'm so pleased to remember that I've got multiple books in the series waiting to go. I'm not so much looking forward to a ten-year gap for the next ones though.

There are some elements of this that I'm not over the moon about. There were a fair few descriptions of women that I feel like women might roll their eyes at, and the disembodied voice saying "UNITE THEM" turns out to be someone I really wouldn't have expected.

I'll start the second book on my way home tonight, and I'm reliably informed it's either best or second-best in the series, which is cool.

I'm reading this with my seven-year-old. It's way above his age group, but I'm changing the few swear words as I go. He's seen them in the book, and he knows it's not appropriate for him to say them to people. He's a fan of Pumpkin.
