The iPhone/iPad version of the official Mastodon app had an update last week which includes the Bookmarks feature. These let you save interesting posts to read later.

To bookmark a post on apps or web, click ⋯ and then click "Bookmark" (or just 🔖 ).

To view bookmarks on apps, click profile picture to go to your profile page, then click 🔖 or "Bookmarks".

Unfortunately I have to stop actively working on for a while due to health issues. I really wish I could implement Mastodon 4 features and squash every bug, but it's not possible for me to do so right now.

I know the app has become important to a lot people, so I'm open to a new maintainer who can carry on its values of privacy and accessibility taking it over if there's interest and a fit. Email info@metabolist.org if you (or your organization) are interested

In case you missed it, Mastodon now lets you edit posts 🥳

You can edit any post you've made, and it will send a notification to people who have already interacted with it to prevent any hijinks or shenanigans. It also lets people see the previous versions.

You can access it through your server's website and some third party apps, for example iPhone/iPad app Toot! and Android app Fedilab.

(The official app doesn't yet support it, so it's another good reason to check out third party apps.)

OMG - I just realized Mastodon has the ability to mute people for predefined periods of time. I've wanted this feature for years. Too often I've muted someone I really like because they're live tweeting an event or something like that, only to forget to unmute them until months later. The ability to mute someone for just a day or two is big for me personally.

A bit of a special shoutout to @jnktn_tv who regularly organise a diverse range of music livestreams on here through the @owncast platform. There's a nice sense of community in their chat room during the streams, they've always been welcoming to newcomers so do pop in and say hello!

If you follow their account you'll be notified when streams are happening:

When the streams go live, they will be at:

Do you want to publish long form texts on the Fediverse?

You might want to try @writefreely, a writing platform which focuses entirely on the text and has a minimalist interface to reduce distractions. More info at:

...and servers to join at:

Because it's part of the Fediverse, you can follow Write Freely accounts from Mastodon.

You can also set up your own server to create your own blogging community.

Content warning Qoto.org blocking, genocide mention

Quick little tip: You don't need to use link shorteners on Mastodon.

All links on Mastodon count for 23 characters towards your limit, no matter how many characters they really are.

However, you need to include https:// at the beginning of links to make them clickable.

Scam Alert!

If you receive an email or response on Mastodon like the following, DO NOT click the link. It is a scam fishing for login details at the very least.

"Mastodon has detected botting malware on your PC that is congesting the Mastodon network. All affected accounts will be suspended within 24 hours unless removed. _https://REDACTEDLINK"

Quick note to anyone who follows my other account FediFollows, it has moved to a new server.

If you're already following it should transfer your follow automatically, but just in case it hasn't you can follow here:

If the account is new to you, it suggests interesting people to follow on here every day, and has a website at https://fedi.directory

If you're just getting started on here, you may be wondering why this place has so many servers and apps. Why make it so complicated?

Click here to find out why:

Twitter is all on one server (twitter.com). This made it VERY easy for Musk to buy it. Any centralised network can be bought out just like this.

The Fediverse is different: as long as we stay spread out on many servers, no one will ever be able to buy this network, not even the richest person in the world.
