Thomas M. Disch: Camp Concentration (1999, Vintage Books)

Sure is dark and dense.

It's full of indirect speaking and allusion, from the perspective of a character who knows he's being watched but also has a split personality but also is an intellectual striver… and all this with a bitter, just-post–WW2 nuclear sort of despair. Took almost as long to read as it did to follow up on all the semi/un-familiar stuff Disch drops in there.
