Not bad, but I found the villain to be one-dimensional and pretty annoying. As Battletech books go, it was fairly solid.

It was pretty hard to get through, the over-reliance on extremely antiquated slang meant I was constantly having to look things up. Viewed through an understanding of the period it was written, I'm sure it was ok, but even as a fan of noir and pulp fiction, I found the misogyny a bit excessive.

Excellent story
5 stars
Excellent story - both a dark turn on the events of the previous, and some great new characters and creatures!
I love the very original treatment of this installment's cryptid (I won't spoil the surprise for you!), and it's great to see Kalyani Sharma develop through this book!
Most of the characters I loved from the first book continued strong into this book, though life hasn't been easy for any of them since the end of the 1st book. It's a great departure from the usual "everything works out perfectly for the hero" type of story. A lot more like 'The Empire Strikes Back' in that sense.
Great book, and I can't wait for the next one!
