Robert Pinsky: The Sounds of Poetry (1999)

Review of 'The Sounds of Poetry' on 'Goodreads'

A book I will surely revisit and keep on the bookshelf. Perhaps a little too simplistic, but the cover does say " brief guide". Pinsky strikes a good balance of technical analysis and feel. I would recommend to anyone who wants to dip their toes in more poetry, although perhaps not to those whose feet are already wet.

"I will be content in this book to accept a social, cultural definition of poetry: poetry is what a bookstore puts in the section of that name. From such a definition one can proceed to discuss the kind of poetry one prefers or admires, etc."
