Very depressing reading. It’s a fictional work, but based on the author’s experience working as a volunteer in 2016 and 2017. I have no reason to believe that this is an unlikely story, and the storytelling is very captivating as well. It’s a realistic story of the horrors people have gone through, and continue to go through, to save themselves and families. The depressing part is that there are so many more stories like this.

String of quotes but no thread
3 stars
The book is full of short, memorable sections that could fill any page with “thoughtful quotes”. But there is not much of a plot and the focus is more on words than a story. Which make it lack depth.
There are also quite a bit focus on gender differences and stereotyping that I disliked.
