Review of 'The Yonahlossee Riding Camp for Girls' on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
I wanted to love this. So many elements were right. It was kind of a mash-up of "Lolita" and "The Secret History." I was hooked for the first 10% - but then my interest flagged. This is a book that might've been better if the reader never actually learned what the big transgression was - as frustrating as that sounds.
Don't get me wrong - I love books with school settings that vividly conjure the eras in which they're set. This does a good job of that - but left me wanting for more. Not a waste of time by any means; the writer can write. I'd be curious to see what other people think of it.
