started reading The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie

Ann Leckie: The Raven Tower (Paperback, 2019, Orbit)

Listen. A god is speaking. My voice echoes through the stone of your master's castle. …

Pretty interesting so far. I was kinda getting sick of 2nd person narration after running into it in another recent read, but this one at least does it a teensy bit better switching it up between 2nd person and 1st person than Harrow the Ninth.

finished reading Zoe's Tale by John Scalzi (Old Man's War, #4)

John Scalzi: Zoe's Tale (2008)

How do you tell your part in the biggest tale in history?

I ask because …

A very different book from previous entries in the Old Man's War series. Probably my least favorite so far, but still pretty decent and set up some interesting changes in the series' universe. Curious to see what direction Scalzi takes it in in the next two.

finished reading The Stone Sky by N. K. Jemisin (The Broken Earth, #3)

N. K. Jemisin: The Stone Sky (Paperback, 2017, Orbit)

THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD ENDS... FOR THE LAST TIME.

The Moon will soon …

The whole trilogy was pretty satisfying, and my favorite part about this third entry was learning about the precursor civilization. So many feels re: Nassun and Essun!

reviewed The Sunlit Man by Brandon Sanderson (Secret Projects, #4)

Brandon Sanderson: The Sunlit Man (EBook, 2023, Doherty Associates, LLC, Tom)

Years ago he had comrades in arms and a cause to believe in, but now …

Cosmere fans only

I don't think this book would stand that well on its own if you haven't read other Cosmere books. It feels more like BrandoSando's just geeking out about how his different magic systems would interact. I enjoyed it, but I'll have to see if I can get someone who's brand new to Cosmere stuff (or just critical of references to other books in the shared universe period, even if already familiar with some Cosmere books) to give it a spin.

finished reading Elantris by Brandon Sanderson (Elantris, #1)

Brandon Sanderson: Elantris (Hardcover, 2005, Tor)

Arriving in the kingdom of Arelon to enter a marriage of state, princess Sarene discovers …

It only took me 9 days?! Huh. This one was as fun as the first time I read it, perhaps a bit more so because I kept looking for hints about the cosmere but not finding any.
