There's a scene, about twenty pages in, where our titular hero says something so shocking (and, up until then, out of character), I had to stop reading for the night. My wife knew exactly where I had reached - she had read the book a couple of weeks before. She was as shocked as I was. We spoke about it for the next half-an-hour.
