I’m trying to create a list of good books that teenagers should be reading before they head off to college. There is a decline in literacy and readership amongst the younger people and we would do well to come up with some great books that are hella engaging for growing minds. I would love to put together a social media campaign across the web.

It doesn’t have to be “serious” or even well regarded by critics. We just need books that might possibly hold the interest long enough to get through the initial chapter. @suzannealdrich I would second any suggestion for Terry Pratchett's Discworld. You go in reading a fun novel about witches, watchmen, wizards, heroes, journalists, engineers, or monks and come out realising you've been taught a lesson in morality and how societies really work by an absolute master. Would recommend to anyone!
