Harter Tobbak, gut zu lesen

5 stars

What a finish!

Yeah, THIS is what we all came here for, this is the ending this epic fantasy tale deserved.

Practically all lose ends are tied up, some maybe a tad hasty (like Padan Fain), but everything feels very satisfactory. And epic. Who'd have guess having 400+ pages of battle, war, fighting, struggle, dying could be so awesome.

Tons of people die. Of course. Lots of heroes are undone, new ones made. There's twists upon turns upon revalations. It's all truly wonderful and fantastic.

And best of all: There's no needless repetitions of stuff said 11 times over in prior books. So it's all meat and no gristle.

This book makes reading through 13 other times absolutely worthwhile.

reviewed Towers of Midnight by Robert Jordan (The Wheel of Time, #13)

Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson: Towers of Midnight (Paperback, 2011, Tor Books) 4 stars

Leading up to the finale!

4 stars

I will say this book sufferes from everything I criticized about earlier volumes. It also suffers from the same sub-par proof-reading Gathering Storm did. Yet, there is SO much happening, so many threads finally coming together, and so much build-up for the grand finale - I actually really enjoyed reading Towers because of all this.

commented on The Gathering Storm by Robert Jordan (The Wheel of Time, Book 12)

Robert Jordan: The Gathering Storm (Paperback, 2010, Tor) 4 stars

In this epic novel, Robert Jordan’s international bestselling series begins its dramatic conclusion. Rand al’Thor, …

So far, this book is disappointing. The writing -which Sanderson explains in the Foreword that he kept his style, but matched it to Jordan's - is either sub par or needed much better copy editing. I've come across multiple instances where sentences started with the same word back to back. I've seen (and forgotten) other errors already. And just now a scene is described, where a person is said to "study the papers" only for a sentence shortly after to state for the same character to be "still watching her". With no described change in the situation. And I'm not 1/5 into the book.

This isn't helping my feeling at all, that I'm really only going to finish the series to HAVE itbfinisgrdit finished (again).
