for the record: I am pro-blocklists and pro-defederation. harassment, especially racial harassment, is epidemic in the Fediverse. I support efforts to create safer spaces for marginalized people in the Fedi. this 100% includes Ro's work on The Bad Space.

sorting thru my follow requests like: 
at this point in my fedi life, I'm no longer interested in being followed by people who aren't willing to share anything about themselves. yeah I sometimes share good content that everyone should see! but no I don't want to be silently surveilled. so if you don't want to say things about your thoughts, experiences and/or self, you can catch my content when someone else boosts it.
(that doesn't mean you can't start by lurking! I started by lurking. I think it's a fine way to begin. it just means, until you reveal something of yourself, we're not going to follow each other.)

grumping about a crochet thing
I've been making a knot pillow: crocheting a giant tube which I will tie into a fancy knot. I bought a pattern, b/c I am not able to figure these things out on my own yet
the pattern said I'd need 437 yards of super bulky. okay, I bought 2 skeins (220 yds ea). it also said I'd end up with a tube of about 5 yards (15 ft).
I used up both skeins and only had 10 ft. I bought another skein and kept going. now I have nearly 5 yds (10 ft) of fuzzy yarn snake. but I tried tying the knot, and I have nowhere near enough length for it. not even close. like I'm maybe at 60-70%?
if I look closely, I can tell that my tube diameter is just a lil bit larger than that of the pattern writer. close, but not quite the same. so I guess that's part of what happened. but I still think their numbers were off! also a gauge would've helped a lot
anyway. at this point I think I'm just gonna make a simpler knot and call it a day. ugh can one project go as planned please

So the best thing to me is when you get to the end of a necessary ordeal (eg dentist, operation, miserable chore etc) and someone says "That was a lot, but you did *really* well."
I know that all it means is I didn't make a fuss or complain during the thing, that I just survived it.
I know the reason I don't make a fuss during crappy times is because of traumic conditioning.
All the same, I fucking love that acknowledgement. Yes, it was a lot, and yeah I did do really well. Thanks so much!

Question If You Understand About Trees
Every Spring, our past-a-decade-old Eastern Redbud tree puts out a small amount of nice blooms followed by leaves. But the majority of it remains dead/dormant and never grows anything.
I blame the bad transplant job a supposed pro did on it 10 years back, when it was still only about 1"/1 Meter tall. Now it's quite large & I doubt it could be moved again. Anything I can do for it to encourage more growth/better health? Thanks. (& you can boost of course)

Learning a common USian food/plant term is a nasty slur
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting a gorgeous lime tree, Citrus hystrix (hystrix is latin for porcupine - it's a thorny lil friend) https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=291778
Sadly, the name I was taught for this, which I learned in the context of leaves used in Thai cooking, is super derogatory. The K-word comes up readily in web sites about this plant as an ingredient, which shows me that I'm not alone in my ignorance.
I wanted to share this, in my belief that delicious food is more delicious when appreciating the beauty of the plants we eat, and plants are incredibly cool and worth celebrating, and that porcupines also are awesome. (And like, food and plants and people being called slurs is NOT COOL) The tree and lime are now being called Thai Lime or Makrut Lime (place name) but I invite you to join me in privately thinking of it as the porcupine lime (although I'm open to "brain lime" since the fruits totally look like wrinkly green brains.) https://www.gardenia.net/plant/citrus-hystrix

Was it that a few of my extended Indian-Canadian family thought it would be okay to recommend this garbage for us to watch?
Probably.
It's totally not surprising seeing this level of hatred and bigotry coming out of Modi-India.
I guess I'm just disappointed that my own family didn't have the awareness to recognize it for what it is and say, hey you know what this film isn't worth watching. It's hateful and hurtful and we think you should stay away from it.
Anyway, if someone recommends this film, do yourself a favor and don't waste two and a half hours of your life you'll never get back.

Israel uses white phosphorus on Al Khiyam in populated areas (today). That directly poisons Lebanon's soil.
Israel has also killed a Hezbollah leader via drone strike. Tension is high as Hezbollah launched drones at a military facility in Israel, injuring 14 soliders and killing 3. (Past few days to today)
Lebanon neither welcomes or denounces the strike Iran did on Israel as retaliation for Israel's strike on Iran's embassy.
I have yet to see Israel state genocidal intent towards Lebanon. I have seen some statements like that for Iran though (next focus)
