Jeff VanderMeer: Borne (2017) 5 stars

Borne is a 2017 novel by American writer Jeff VanderMeer. It concerns a post-apocalyptic city …

Amazing as usual

5 stars

Just like Annihilation, it's beautiful and weird.

This one focuses more on characters however, rather than just environment. It's weird and even more confusing, but I love it.

I love Borne so much. What a little guy. Mischievous fellow.

Robert W. Chambers: The King In Yellow (2010, Wordsworth Editions) 4 stars

Very good stories, drops off in the latter ones

4 stars

The King in Yellow is a collection of various short stories.

The first few start off amazingly, detailing the madness and strangeness of the King in Yellow. However, after that, the stories don't really focus on it as much. There is still strangeness, and skilled writing of course, but I just didn't enjoy them quite as much.

Overall, they're great stories though, and I'd recommend reading at least the first few.

Beautiful Horror

5 stars

I greatly enjoyed the movie, but loved the book even more. While the movie does a great job of visually portraying everything, it just can't compare to the books and your imagination. The book also seems to put a bit more focus on the characters conflicts with each other, and what happens between them.

It goes into such detail of the weird things happening in Area X, and all the strange happenings. I found it less scary, and more beautiful.

Not only is everything amazingly and skillfully written, but just the goings on are beautiful as well, in my opinion.

A Strange and Wonderful Story

5 stars

The Hellbound Heart is a wonderfully written horrifying novel.

I read it after I saw the Hellraiser movie however. I love the imagery in the movie, but the book is great too.

It's very well written, and never really gets boring or slow. It is a bit strange in parts, but I like that.

So far I'm really enjoying it.

It'd definitely different to the movie, and I think I like it more, but they're both good in different ways.

The movie does a really good job at portraying the visual aspect, and is really beautiful.
