The Virginia Germans

So much of what we can know about our forebears depends on the study of their surroundings at the appropriate time, for they did not live in the world we know now. This survey of the Germans who migrated from Pennsylvania into western Virginia in the mid-eighteenth century - many of whom moved on in a generation or two - brought their mindset and experiences to life in a way that reading a land deed or a tax list simply doesn’t do.
