Inspectors Hannasyde & Hemingway #4

Who would kill the perfect gentleman?

When Ernest Fletcher is found bludgeoned to death in his study, everyone is shocked and mystified: Ernest was well liked and respected, so who would have a motive for killing him? Inspectors of Scotland Yard felt it was an unlikely crime for the London suburbs: a perfectly respectable chap at home with his head bashed in. Review of 'A Blunt Instrument' on 'Goodreads'

I was rather disappointed in this mystery novel by Georgette Heyer. I've read several of her books, including three of her regency romances. Her regencies are better in my opinion. There is a great deal of humor in her mysteries and it can get quite annoying at times. This is one of those times.

This book is just not very memorable. PC Glass, a religious fanatic, quickly becomes annoying with all his Bible quoting. The two "romances" are tiresome and not very believable, especially the one between Sally and Neville. Finally, I was able to figure out who did, how it was done, and why it was done before the book was even half over.

I think two stars is being generous here.

Seriously, if you want to read some Georgette Heyer, try "The Grand Sophy" or "Faro's Daughter." They're much more amusing.
