The Grandmaster and Today

What can I say Heinlein is he grand master. This small novella and couple of stories are interesting but the best read is the letter from the author. Right now in our present time we are having the same issues with anti-intellectualism, anti-science, anti-pluralism, etc. As our current situation could be the backdrop to how the events in this book fall into place.

The biggest difference is the role of big corporations have on big government. That is not as evident in this book as it is in our time. A bit dated in language but this was published in the 1950s so that I should be expected.

Just a fun read.

Just a fun read.

This book actually consists of three stories. The Main story, and longest, Revolt 2100 was great. In 2100 the US is controlled by a religious dictator, there's an underground revolution, etc. That's the sci-fi plot, the real interesting stuff is Heinlein's social study on religious control, censorship, and the dangers of an unchecked government. Considering it was written in 1953 it is eerily relevant to current events.
Also in this collection - "Coventry" continues that story, years later, and a different plot. It's ok, but the charecters and storyline aren't quite as interesting.

The 3rd story - "Misfits" is more straight ahead sci-fi , space exploration, and a really smart misfit. Kind of standard, it passed time on the subway.
