Classic science fiction adventure with the protagonists as free traders dealing with the unexpected, rather than explorers, scientists, or soldiers. There's not a female character in the entire book, but the all-male crew does at least contain men of multiple ethnicities.

Norton had a way of building worlds without lengthy exposition, and this book is a good example of that. You learn just enough of the way the universe works to understand what's going on in the story.
