Review of 'The Well of Loneliness' on 'Goodreads'

3 stars

It’s a benchmark piece of its time, but being a product of the 20’s its subject to a gaggle of assorted prejudices (namely, the repugnant racism).

Radclyffe’s prose is often appealing to the senses, even when it chooses to meander a bit too long. The story itself covers the doomed but filthy rich Stephen, a character that I honestly had to struggle to find sympathy for outside of her initial first failed romance with Angela Crossby.

Overall, it’s an interesting historical piece, and a must if you’re looking to build up a backbone of historical lgbtq lit
