The author of the newsletter Letters from an American tells the story, in her inimitable and straightforward way, of the United States' path from the 1930s to where it is today: facing down fascism.
In the 1930s with the election of FDR, Americans made the choice to fight totalitarianism and defend democracy around the world. Richardson describes the push and pull between supporters of authoritarianism and those of democracy throughout our history. We may never entirely eliminate the autocratic thread that winds through our past, but in this time of testing, the power to fight it lies with us.
It is particularly appalling to read in a single account the mass of crimes and unethical behaviors of the Trump administration. I follow politics closely and am familiar with most of these events, but reading them in a single narrative took my breath away. The author exposes the guilt of these …
