An interesting and overall enjoyable retelling of Frankenstein. As in the original, most of these characters are quite unlikeable and flawed, but the story they tell is nonetheless (or perhaps due to that) very compelling. The characters in this novel do feel somewhat more fully fleshed-out, or perhaps were just given backstory that was more relatable or empathetic than those in the original. There are some choices here that I was a bit unsure of, a bit uncomfortable with; some of these were clearly intended to discomfit the reader, but others were less clear.
Both the events and the writing style evoke the original Frankenstein, sometimes even borrowing (credited) lines directly from the original. It feels very much like a retelling written by an author who is a big fan of the original, and I think on the whole it works quite well.
