The decline from the first book is evident

I started to sour on the first book during its final section, and this book started out better by leaving that behind for 1980's Paris, but it quickly fell back into the same bad habits, but worse this time around

so this book is much less interesting than the sympathizer but basically re-interprets it as a le samourai esque tale through communist / maoist sympathizing paris and is extremely fun a good. decective / noir AF

The balance and good judgment that made The Sympathizer work so very well is disappointingly absent from this sequel.

The saga continues. The Sympathizer was phenomenal, this book was a little less but still thrilling.
