Review of 'His Illegal Self' on 'Goodreads'

I’m not convinced that Carey did enough to convince me that Che was an 8 year old. Further, for a book set mostly in 1970’s Bjelke-Pietersen-land, the white shoe brigade and their enforcers were a surprisingly light hint of menace. Finally, and oddly for a Carey novel, I found both the style and the structure distracted from the story, for example, Many of the logical jumps felt like they belonged in a poorly plotted Hollywood drama, rather than on the pages of one of the English speaking worlds foremost authors.
