Review of 'New People' on 'Goodreads'

3 stars

It would be too strong to call “New People” a satire, but it’s a somewhat satirical look at modern conceptions of race and culture. The dry prose style is well-suited to the main character and makes for a fast read. It’s very of-the-moment, a novel to put in a time capsule about what America was like in 2018. On the surface, it’s the story of a Millennial couple, one half of whom struggles with how much to sacrifice for a good-on-paper relationship.
