Review of 'The myth of the barangay' on 'Goodreads'

Overall a great illuminating read. Always felt there was something fishy about the 'barangay' concept. I like the last portion, which is an essay surveying/describing the terrain of Philippine scholarship with regards to use of home/native/indigenous perspectives and sources. I've often heard of the 'pantayong pananaw' in college, and had a somewhat vague idea of it, but this essay makes clear to me the stakes involved in this perspective. I also like that the author highlights the importance of the rise of regional studies centers which are research and cultural centers attached to local educational institutions that cater/provide resources or services to that specific community or locale.
