Objectively, I think this was a good book, but it wasn't for me. I hate epic fantasy, and this one felt like epic fantasy in an urban setting. Replace the office building with a castle, and the museum with a monastery and there you go, full epic middle ages fantasy.
I think part of the problem is the ever same good vs. evil trope. I don't even know what a "dark magician" is supposed to be opposed to a "light magician".
I'm pretty sure there aren't any other groups of people presenting themselves as "the evil ones".
I mean, have you ever heard of "the dark politicians vs the light politicians"? Of course not, most of them are simply politicians. Some are more loved or hated than others, sure. But none of them are evil or good by default to every one.
