I could have done with a hundred or so fewer pages of Lovecraftian horrorscapes and lengthy descriptions of terrible self-mutilation, but as portal-to-hell stories go, this was fast-paced and mostly well-told, albeit with some rather glaring plot conveniences and some truly atrocious dialogue.
