Review of 'Passage to Juneau' on 'Goodreads'

I really wanted to like this, but it was a real slog to get through. (Looks like it took me just more than a year.) I wanted to read this because I had been through a lot of the same places. But something about the prose, the density of the detail, created a distance from these places. There was a vague recognition but it was buried under a mountain of other things.

I did find individual pages interesting, individual tidbits, but as a journey, there was no flow and connection to the next section. And for such a long journey, essentially only two things happen in the entire book (father dies, wife leaves). That's a lot to get through for so little.
