Holistic overview of climate modeling

What are climate models? What is the theory behind them? How are they developed and by whom?

Easterbrook gives us a good overview of the answers, without going into technical details. You will find no equations here, for example (although plenty of references to the research literature for those interested).

The focus is really on these computational models, so this is also not a comprehensive guide to the science itself. However, a good deal of the scientific background is woven into the text, particularly in the chapter on the history of climate modeling.

Well written and readable.

Well-written and approachable guide to climate modeling

a neilernst starred review

It may be an esoteric sounding topic, but Steve's book clearly lays out how climate models work. And these models are incredibly important and growing in importance. The book walks the reader through the history of scientific modeling of the climate, starting with early approaches in the non-computational era. It concludes with a comprehensive assessment of the current state of the art, model comparison, and future challenges in climate modeling and action.
