A good introduction to the mystery stories featuring Pat and Jean Abbott. In this one, the Abbotts have new neighbors, Dr and Mrs Alby, the doctor's three daughters, his sister, Mrs Quayle, and her stepson, Don Quayle, who is engaged to the oldest Alby daughter. This is not a normal family by any means - Mrs Quayle is obsessed with her handsome, wild, and womanizing stepson, who is also the object of Mrs Alby's affections. Dr Alby is an invalid who needs to be cared for by his second wife, Rona, a former nurse, if she can take her eyes off Don Quayle long enough. Audrey, the oldest daughter, is a model - utterly selfish and heartless, and quite determined that Don is going to belong to her and not Rona or Mrs Quayle.
