My problem with war books is that they're about war. The back cover of this book promised that the book is about more than just war. Maybe it is; it has some interesting parts about how a young guy feels about getting drafted into a war he feels is immoral. But mostly this book is about war, and not in an interesting or eye-opening way. It's full of racism, and what finally got me was senseless animal abuse as revenge for a lost comrade. This book wasn't for me, and I didn't finish it.
