Revisiting a childhood favorite

It has been many years since I read Redwall. I'm not sure how many books of the series I read back in my youth, but it was quite a few. I wanted to see how it stood up, as an "adult". I listened to the audiobook version, which is nice because it is a full cast reading, but not good because the voices can be pretty annoying and the audio recording, mixing, and levels are quite bad. Overall I enjoyed it, and I can see how it set me off on a lifetime of fantasy novel reading, but it doesn't have much meat on its bones.

Review of 'Redwall' on 'Goodreads'

I finally read Redwall! The story didn't flow for me quite as well as I had hoped, but overall I thought the plot was very creative, the characters were engaging, and there was a lot of humor and charm that would appeal to both children and adults. The vocabulary and the different dialects of the woodland creatures would definitely be challenging for a child to read on his or her own, but it would be a really fun book to read aloud with a child.
